Facebook Error: Missing permission (opt-in issue)

Overview

If you receive the following error while publishing a Facebook post from Birdeye:

Missing permission (opt-in issue): Any of the pages_read_engagement, pages_manage_metadata, pages_read_user_content, pages_manage_ads, pages_show_list, or pages_messaging permission(s) must be granted before impersonating a user's page

The Facebook Page connected to Birdeye wasn't authorized with all the required permissions during the initial connection. As a result, Birdeye cannot publish or manage content for the Page.

Why This Happens

This error typically occurs when:

  • One or more required Facebook Page permissions were not granted during the connection process.

  • During reconnection, only a specific Facebook Page was selected instead of choosing Opt in to all current and future Pages.

  • Facebook revoked access to previously connected Pages because the required opt-in option wasn't selected.

This is a connection setup issue rather than a problem with your Facebook account.

How to Resolve the Issue

1. Disconnect your Facebook Page

In Birdeye, navigate to Settings > under Integrations, select Facebook, and disconnect the affected Facebook Page.

2. Reconnect your Facebook account

Reconnect your Facebook account and make sure you:

  • Grant all requested permissions during the OAuth flow.

  • Do not skip or deselect any permissions.

3. Select Opt in to all current and future Pages

During Facebook's authorization process, select Opt in to all current and future Pages instead of selecting only individual Pages.

This ensures Birdeye retains access to all authorized Pages and prevents previously connected Pages from being disconnected.

4. Verify the connection

After reconnecting, publish a test post to confirm that the Facebook Page has been connected successfully.

If the Issue Persists

If the issue continues after reconnecting:

  • Verify that all requested Facebook permissions were granted during the OAuth flow.

  • Repeat the connection process and ensure Opt in to all current and future Pages is selected.

  • Contact Birdeye Support if the issue remains unresolved.

Additional Information

This is a setup-related issue caused by incomplete permissions or Page authorization during the initial Facebook connection. Selecting Opt in to all current and future Pages helps prevent Facebook from revoking access to previously connected Pages and reduces the likelihood of recurring permission-related errors.
