How can I use Display Logic while creating a survey?

With Birdeye, you can create smarter customer surveys from within your account that are most suitable for the respondents who are taking your survey. Birdeye's 'display logic' tool helps you design the survey to derive the most relevant feedback from the respondents using a flow chart like logic (If... Then...Else).

How does display logic work:

Display logic displays a certain question in answer to the previous question by the respondent. This tool helps you to derive additional data from a respondent keeping in mind the previous response.

Example: Let's say your initial question is "What is your favorite drink? 'Lemonade', 'Soda', 'Juice' or 'Tea'. Display logic allows you to show the question only if the pre-defined answer is selected in the initial question. Hence the logic will look like this - 'Display this question if the following conditions are met: 'Tea' is selected.

Setting up display logic is similar to adding skip logic.

Click on a question that you want to display in response to the previous question by the respondent. Click on the ‘Options’ drop-down and select ‘Add display logic’ to begin setup.

Now, select an answer that will result in displaying the next question if the response condition is met. You can choose from a variety of modifying tools, including 'is', 'is not', 'is greater than' etc. Use the 'Plus' (+) icon to add a condition.

Delete

NOTE:

Since multiple display logics are implemented in a survey, which makes this single-page survey multi-page indirectly, and in the multi-page survey, we record the partial response as well. Thus, a mandatory question can be skipped due to display logic and may not have responses even for single-page surveys.

FAQs

What is the difference between display logic and skip logic?

Display logic: Display logic will display a certain question in answer to the previous question by the respondent. This tool helps you to get additional data from a respondent keeping in mind the previous response of the respondent.

Skip logic: Skip logic allows you to jump to any question based on the answer to a selected question. This function helps you to take the respondent to a new question and jump questions that are not relevant to the flow for that respondent.

When should I use display logic?

  • When you want to direct the flow of the survey if questions are visible or not depending on the condition.
  • When you want the respondent to reply to more relevant questions.
  • When you wish to create a more customized survey for your respondent.
