Best practices to update business listings

Birdeye serves as a single source of truth for all businesses to accurately manage information for all locations Users can automatically update 50+listings sites in one go and optimize listings on top search engines.

As a business owner, you must comply with a specific set of guidelines to prevent your business listings from suspension and represent your business information accurately.

To avoid common problems while changing important information on your account or removing business information from online directories, follow the guidelines below:

  • Make sure that you represent your business on online directories the way it is consistently represented and recognized in the real world across signage, website, storefront and other branding.
  • The address and/or service area on the business listings should be accurate and precise.
  • While choosing the categories to describe your overall business, make sure that you choose the fewest number of categories that best describes your business.
  • There should be only one profile for every business to prevent problems with the display of information on maps and search engine results.

BEST PRACTICES ON ADDING BASIC BUSINESS INFORMATION

While adding the name, address and phone number (NAP) data on your business listings, make sure that you follow the basic guidelines listed below:

Information Details
Name The name on the business listing should reflect the real world business name as used on the website, storefront, stationery and as known to the customers. An accurately represented business name helps customers to easily find you.
Delete

IMPORTANT:

Some online directories do not permit including unnecessary information, capitalization or special characters in your business name. Adding an inaccurate name or irrelevant information might result in suspension of your account.

Address The location address or service area should be accurate and precise. Some online directories do not accept P.O. Boxes or mailboxes located at remote locations. HANDY TIP: Make sure that your business location is accurately visible on maps.
Phone number

Here are the guidelines on updating the phone number:

  1. The phone number should connect your individual business location as directly as possible
  2. Use a local phone number instead of a central or call center helpline number
  3. Do not provide phone numbers or URLs that redirect or "refer" users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business
  4. The phone number must be under the direct control of the business
  5. Premium-rate telephone numbers are not supported by some of the online directories like Google
