The Template Builder lets you create and customize both email and text templates. Email templates can be designed using a flexible drag-and-drop editor, allowing you to visually build layouts, add custom blocks, and tailor templates for reviews, surveys, referrals, and customer experience campaigns. Text templates use a simple plain-text editor for quick message creation. The builder also allows you to customize landing pages linked to email templates, giving you greater control over layout, branding, and messaging—without requiring technical expertise.
Navigation
Go to ‘Marketing Automation AI’ in the left navigation rail.
Expand the ‘Templates AI’ tab, select ‘Email templates,’ and click ‘Create template’ in the top-right corner of the screen.
Select the type of template you want to create. For example, choose ‘Reviews’ to build a review request template.
Email Template
In the email template. You can use the drag-and-drop editor, where you can design your email template by adding sections, buttons, text, images, and other supported content blocks.
Click the edit icon next to the template name at the top of the page to rename the template.
Expand the ‘Subject’ section in the left panel to view or edit the email subject line. You can use the ‘Personalize’ option to insert dynamic tokens (such as contact name or business name). Additionally, use the ‘AI’ option to refine the subject—make it longer or shorter, or adjust the tone as needed.
Use the Content blocks in the left panel to build and customize your email template by dragging and dropping them into the layout. Each block serves a specific purpose, as outlined below.
Content Block | Purpose / What it’s used for |
1 Section | Adds a single full-width container to place content such as text, images, or buttons. Best for simple, linear layouts. |
2 Section | Creates a two-column layout, allowing you to place content side by side (for example, text on one side and an image on the other). |
3 Section | Adds a three-column layout for displaying multiple pieces of content in one row, such as features or highlights. |
Split section | Creates a flexible multi-column layout where each section can hold different content blocks. Useful for more customizable side-by-side layouts. |
Button | Adds a clickable call-to-action (CTA) such as Review us, Take survey, or Contact us. |
Divider | Inserts a horizontal line to visually separate sections of the email. |
Spacer | Adds vertical spacing between blocks to improve readability and layout balance. |
Text | Used to add and edit written content such as messages, instructions, or descriptions. |
Image | Allows you to insert images such as logos, banners, or promotional visuals. |
Link | Adds a clickable text link that redirects users to a specific URL. |
Title | Inserts a heading or subheading to structure content and draw attention to key sections. |
Video | Embeds a video link or thumbnail to include visual content in the email. |
HTML | Allows advanced users to add custom HTML for greater design control. |
Social links | Displays social media icons that link to your business’s social profiles. |
Review quote | Highlights a customer review or testimonial within the email. |
Review button | A preconfigured button designed specifically to direct users to leave a review. |
Example 1 - Review Quote (Dynamic)
Add a template block to the layout by dragging and dropping the ‘Review quote’ block into the template as an example.
Click the ‘Review quote’ block in the template to open its settings panel on the right. When ‘Dynamic review’ is enabled, the review quote is populated dynamically instead of showing a static review. The displayed review is determined by the selected display logic, location, and applied filters, which we’ll cover in the next step.
Enabling ‘Location personalization’ in the right panel ensures that the review shown matches the contact’s visit location. For example, if a contact visited the Palo Alto location, they will see reviews from Palo Alto rather than reviews from another location, such as Dallas.
Click the Display logic dropdown to choose how reviews are selected for the template. You can show the most recent customer reviews or display random reviews instead.
Use the Filter review by section to control which reviews appear in the template. You can filter reviews based on star rating (from no ratings up to 5 stars), select one or more review sources (such as Google, Yelp, and more), and choose the review length (Short, Medium, or Lengthy). This helps ensure only the most relevant reviews are displayed.
Use the Layout style dropdown to choose how the review appears in a ‘Quote’ or ‘Testimonial’ style.
You can also toggle off the reviewer’s avatar, name, date, location, or source for privacy, and customize the background color of the review quote to better match your template’s design.
Example 2 - Review Quote (Static)
To send a single, static review testimonial to all recipients, turn off Dynamic review and select a specific review using the Select a review option.
Click the header section to open its settings in the right panel, where you can update the header image, background color, font family, and text color.
Similarly, clicking on any content block or CTA lets you customize its background color, font family, text color, and CTA styling to match your brand.
Example 3 - Content Variation
Click directly on the text block (not the section or container). In the right panel, turn on the Dynamic Content toggle to allow this text to change based on conditions.
Click the Variation dropdown in the right panel and select Add variation to create a conditional version of this text block.
Enter a meaningful name for the variation. For example, Detractors, and click Add condition to define when this variation should be shown.
In the condition builder, click the Select dropdown and choose Review Activities, then select Latest Review Rating, and click Apply. This is just an example—depending on your template requirement, you can use any of the available condition options to define your variation logic.
Choose the condition operator as 'is less than' to target customers with lower review ratings.
Select 4 as the rating value. This ensures the variation applies only to customers who rated their experience below 4.
Click Apply to confirm the rule. This variation will now target customers who left ratings of less than 4.
In the text block, add the offer message, for example:
“Enjoy 10% off on your next purchase.” This message will only appear for detractors.
Click the Variation dropdown again and select Default to view the standard version of the template.
In the default variation, the offer line is removed. You now have two versions of the same template—one for detractors and one for all others—managed within a single template using dynamic content variations.
Click the gear icon in the template editor to open template settings.
Under Location Scope, choose whether the template should apply globally or to specific locations.
Enable the toggle to allow replies to appear in the Birdeye Inbox, if required.
Click Save to apply and confirm your location scope settings.
Move to the feedback page. Close the right-side panel and click the Next arrow to proceed to the Feedback page.
You can edit this page from the Landing pages section, or simply click on any block here to start editing it directly.
After reviewing and editing all pages, click Save to store the template.
You will be redirected to the Saved tab, where all your saved email templates are listed and ready for use.

Select the required template type based on your use case. For example, choose Surveys to create a survey request text template.
Use the pencil icon next to the template name to rename the template.
Edit the message body directly in the text box.

Use AI to adjust the tone or make the message shorter or longer.
