Mobile carriers (e.g., AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) now require businesses to register their texting numbers under A2P 10DLC. This industry-wide regulation was introduced to reduce spam and ensure that legitimate businesses can continue sending SMS messages to their customers.
If your business texting number is not registered, your SMS messages may be blocked or suspended by mobile carriers.
To avoid disruptions, access your Birdeye dashboard and complete the registration using the link available in the top banner.
If you need help with the registration process, please contact our support team at 1-800-561-3357 Ext. 3 or support@birdeye.com.
IMPORTANT:
10DLC registration is required for any business sending text messages to US phone numbers, including businesses located outside the United States.
What Is A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC stands for Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code, a messaging system used by businesses to send SMS messages to customers using standard 10-digit phone numbers.
Conventionally, long codes have had a low-barrier entry as several counterfeit businesses, scammers, and other bad actors started exploiting SMS as a channel. There are several businesses and individuals who avoid the opt-in process, which results in high spam reports.
Through the years, wireless carriers have worked towards creating a more trusted and regulated ecosystem to keep text messaging a feasible channel. A2P 10DLC offers enhanced delivery quality and lower filtering risk than long code SMS of the past, using the same phone numbers.
Who Needs to Register?
Businesses that send SMS messages to customers using a platform or application must complete A2P 10DLC registration when sending messages to U.S. phone numbers.
Why Do I Need to Register With 10DLC?
Registering under A2P 10DLC will help authentic businesses run uninterrupted SMS campaigns, resulting in maximum deliverability and higher throughput. It will also allow carriers to monitor bad actors that exploit the SMS channel.
Businesses that do not register for a 10-digit long code in the US will have their messages blocked by carriers unless they have an alternative high-volume texting number, such as a toll-free verified number or a dedicated short code they are paying for.
Carrier requirements:
There has been an industry-wide change introduced by wireless carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon to reduce spam. As per their new regulations, every business sending text messages is required to register itself under a system called 10 DLC to continue texting customers. This is an industry-wide requirement beyond our control, and it has a one-time registration fee and monthly recurring fees associated with it.
For those businesses that had previously registered on the starter plan of 10 DLC, please note that the previous registration type is no longer supported by carriers, and the new registration type requires additional information. This is why all businesses that had previously registered now have to re-register. This is a recent change and requirement that we have been notified about and must comply with.
Every business sending customers text messages must register and go through this change. We are here to provide you with full support during this transition. Our goal is to make this process seamless and hassle-free for you.
What Happens If You Do Not Register?
Businesses that do not complete A2P 10DLC registration may experience the following:
SMS messages may be blocked or filtered by carriers
Message delivery may fail
Campaigns may stop sending messages
Unregistered numbers won't have incoming text capabilities
Birdeye will facilitate outgoing text messages, automations, and auto-replies via a shared toll-free number, + +18888705520, appending "Sent via Birdeye" to each text.
What Types of SMS Messages Require 10DLC Registration?
10DLC registration is required for businesses that send SMS messages, such as:
Promotional text messages
Review request messages
Referral request messages
Survey invitations sent via SMS
Event invitations or product launch announcements sent via SMS
I Have Already Provided Information to Register My Business. Why Do I Have to Re-Register?
We have recently been informed by carriers about a change in registration requirements for 10 DLC, where they no longer support the previous registration type. As a result, we are now required to comply with the new registration type, which necessitates additional information from businesses that are sending text messages. This update has been communicated to us as a mandatory requirement, and we must adhere to it by August 31, 2023.
Does 10DLC apply to Canadian businesses?
Yes. If your business is based in Canada and you send text messages to US phone numbers, you are required to complete 10DLC registration.
US carriers mandate 10DLC registration for all application-to-person (A2P) messages delivered to US numbers.
How Much Will the 10DLC Registration Cost Me?
The new 10 DLC registration has one-time and recurring fees associated with it, depending on whether your business has an EIN, has purchased Mass Texting, and the number of locations it has.
The low-volume plan costs a $19 one-time fee + $1.50 monthly recurring fee
1. Businesses with less than 5 locations.
2. Has an EIN.
The sole proprietorship plan costs a $19 one-time fee + $2 monthly recurring fee
