How do I create a Google Search Console account?

Updated today

Google Search Console (GSC), previously Google Webmaster Tools (GWT), is a free tool owned by Google that allows webmasters to check the indexing status of their websites and assists in optimizing SEO. Other than helping with the visibility, GSC also helps website owners check website statistics, find keywords used by users to find the website, and much more.

To learn about removing a URL from indexing using GSC, read this help center article: How can I use Google's Search Console tool to remove indexing for my website?

Set up Google Search Console

To begin, go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/ and sign in using your Google account.

Once you have signed in, you will need to add the site URL for your property. After you have added the URL, click on the 'ADD PROPERTY' button.

NOTE:

Do ensure the added URL is correct and the exact address is entered.

Google will now check the URL and automatically provide a 'Recommended verification method' and a couple of other 'Other verification methods' to authenticate if the property belongs to you. Select the method to verify the ownership and click on the 'DONE' button on the bottom right.
