How to create a referral campaign?
Birdeye referral programs enable businesses to get new customers through referrals from their existing customers. People are more likely to make a purchase if a product or service is recommended to them by someone they know. This article walks you through the steps involved in creating and running referral campaigns.
CREATING A REFERRAL AUTOMATION
To begin, click on the 'Campaigns' tab on the left navigation rail. On the 'Automations' page, click on the 'Create automation' button and select the 'Referral' option. To know more about 'Automations', read this help centre article: How do I create an automation?
On the new page, you can customize various sections detailed below:
Edit automation name | To edit the automation name, click on the 'Pencil' icon next to the name of your referral automation. |
Send referral request via | This section allows you to choose the mode of sending the campaign from the options: 'Email and text', 'Email only', 'Text only', 'Text first' and 'Email first'. |
Define the conditions | This section allows you to manually define your recipients, using certain conditions. The configurations done in this section will trigger an automation when the conditions are met. |
Choose your referral template | Allows you to select a referral template. |
Schedule your referral request | Allows you to choose when to launch the automation - immediately or at a later date or day(s). |
Get referrals | Click on this button to launch the automation. |
Upon clicking the 'Get referrals' button, your referral automation will be launched and you will be redirected to the 'Manage automations' page where you will see a confirmation message at the top.

CREATING A REFERRAL CAMPAIGN
To create and run a campaign for referrals, go to the 'Campaigns' tab. On the new screen, click on the 'Create campaigns' button and select the 'Referral' option.
On the new page, you can customize and launch your campaign. Different sections on this page are listed under:
Edit campaign name |
To edit the campaign name, click on the 'Edit name' button on the top left. |
Send campaign via |
This section allows you to choose the mode of sending the campaign from the options: 'Email and text', 'Email only', 'Text only', 'Text first' and 'Email first'. |
Send campaign to |
This section allows you to define your audience manually. Unlike automated campaigns, you need to select an audience for a manual campaign. |
Choose your templates |
Allows you to select a type of referral template. |
Schedule your campaign |
Allows you to choose when to send out the campaign - immediately, or at a different date and time. You can manually select the start and end date and run the campaign. To learn more, read the help article: How do I schedule a campaign? |
Send reminder emails |
Allows you to send reminder emails to your contacts. Birdeye allows you to select the interval at which the reminder messages will be sent on a scale of 1 to 7 days and the total number of reminder messages on a scale of 1 to 5 emails/texts. |
Get referrals |
Click on this button to launch the referral campaign. |
After the campaign is launched, your customers will receive referral emails and texts based on the campaign settings.
Here is how a referral campaign appears to the customers on desktop and mobile devices.
The customer can click on the referral buttons and share the referral message with their friends and relatives on those platforms. The message will be shared as a referral link. When the customer's friends or family members click on the link and fill up the details on the appointment form, a successful referral is recorded.
