How to Configure and Use the Review Generation Agent

Introduction

The Review Generation Agent helps you automate review request campaigns using configurable, agent-based workflows. You can configure when the agent should run, which contacts should receive review requests, and how review request templates are selected and sent.

The agent supports several common use cases, including sending review requests using predefined templates, testing multiple templates to identify the best-performing option, selecting the best time and day to send requests, or combining A/B testing with smart targeting.

Review Generation Agent use cases

The Review generation agent includes pre-configured templates for common review request workflows:

  • Review generation agent — Sends review requests to all checked-in contacts using predefined templates.

  • Review generation agent with A/B testing — Tests multiple review request template variations to optimize for conversion.

  • Review generation agent with smart targeting — Sends review requests to checked-in contacts at their optimal day and time using predefined templates.

  • Review generation agent with A/B testing and smart targeting — Combines smart targeting with A/B testing to optimize review request timing and template selection.

In this article, we'll use the Review generation agent with A/B testing and smart targeting to show how to configure the agent. The same configuration principles apply to the other Review generation agent use cases.

Access the Review Generation Agent

  1. Go to Reviews AI in the left navigation rail

  2. Expand Agents

  3. Select Generation agents.

  4. Switch to the Library tab.

  5. Locate the Review generation agent with A/B testing and smart targeting template and click Use agent.

Configure the Review Generation Agent

Click the Review generation agent with A/B testing and smart targeting node to open the Agent panel.

  • In Name, modify the agent name as needed.

  • Review the Goals configured for the agent.

  • Under Locations, click the pencil icon to select the locations where you want the agent to run.

  • Click Save.

Configure the trigger

The Trigger determines when the Review Generation Agent starts evaluating a contact for a review request. By default, the agent uses Contact is added, so it evaluates contacts whenever they are added to the selected sources.

Click the Contact is added trigger to review or change the trigger event.

Choose a trigger

You can select the event that should start the agent. The available triggers are:

  • Contact is added — Starts the agent when a contact is added.

  • Contact completed a survey — Starts the agent when a contact completes a survey.

  • Contact updated — Starts the agent when a contact's property is updated.

  • Contact is added or updated — Starts the agent when a contact is created or updated.

Review the trigger description

After selecting a trigger, review the Description to understand when the agent runs and how it evaluates contacts for review requests.

Select contact sources

Under Source, select where the contacts should be picked from. You can select one or more sources, or use Select all to include all available sources.

Available sources include:

  • Integration

  • API

  • Dashboard

  • Custom check-in

  • Bulk import

  • Quick send

  • Chrome extension

  • SFTP

Select the required sources and click Apply.

Add trigger conditions

Use Add condition under Trigger conditions to add conditions that determine which contacts should qualify for the trigger.

Add the required conditions based on your review request workflow.

Click Save to save the trigger configuration.

At this point, you may notice that the workflow shows 3 Errors. These errors indicate that other workflow nodes still require configuration. As you configure each node, the error count is updated automatically.

Send review request email

The Send review request email action sends review requests to eligible contacts through email. In this workflow, the action also supports A/B testing, allowing you to test multiple email templates and identify the version that performs best.

Click the Send review request email node to open its configuration panel. Review or modify the Action name and Description, then click the pencil icon next to the tool to configure the email settings.

Configure the A/B test

Select Run A/B test for emails to test different review request email templates.

You can select up to 5 templates for the A/B test. Select the required templates, then click Select.

Set the template distribution

After selecting the templates, configure the Distribution for each variant to control how frequently each template is sent.

The combined distribution for all variants must total 100%. For example, you can distribute two templates equally at 50% each or assign different percentages based on how you want to run the test.

Configure the test settings

Under the A/B test settings, configure:

  • Test ends — Select the date when the A/B test should end.

  • Winning metric — Select the metric used to determine the winning variant:

    • Open rate

    • Click rate

    • Review written

  • Fallback version — Select the template to use when the A/B test results are inconclusive. This version is sent to all future contacts who enter the workflow.

The selected winning variant is sent to recipients after the A/B test concludes based on the configured test duration and winning metric.

Under Advance details, you can enable Override any communication restriction for sending this email when required.

Click Save to save the email action configuration.

After configuring the node, the workflow now shows 2 Errors, indicating that one of the previously unconfigured nodes has been resolved. Continue configuring the remaining nodes to clear the remaining errors.

Send review request text

The Send review request text action sends review requests to eligible contacts through text. Like the email action, it supports A/B testing, allowing you to test multiple SMS templates and identify the version that performs best.

Click the Send review request text node to open its configuration.

Configure the A/B test

Select Run A/B test for texts to test different review request SMS templates.

You can select up to 5 templates for the A/B test. Select the required templates and click Select.

Set the template distribution

Configure the Distribution for each variant to control how frequently each SMS template is sent.

The combined distribution for all variants must total 100%.

Configure the test settings

Under the A/B test settings, configure:

  • Test ends — Select the date when the A/B test should end.

  • Winning metric — Select the metric used to determine the winning variant:

    • Open rate

    • Click rate

    • Review written

  • Fallback version — Select the template to use if the A/B test results are inconclusive. This version is sent to all future contacts who enter the workflow.

Recipients receive the winning variant when the A/B test concludes at the end of the configured test duration.

Under Advance details, you can enable Override any communication restriction for sending this text when required.

Click Save to save the text action configuration.

Configure the delay

The Delay node determines how long the agent waits before continuing to the next step in the workflow. In the Review Generation Agent, delays can be used to control when review requests or follow-up actions are sent based on a specific period, date, event, or optimal timing.

Under Delay options, select the condition that should determine when the workflow continues. The fields displayed below the option change dynamically based on the selected delay type.

The available delay options include:

  • For a set amount of time — Wait for a specified duration.
    Example: Delay for 5 days.

  • Until a day of the week — Wait until a specific day.
    Example: Delay until Tuesday.

  • Until a specific time of the day — Wait until a specified time.
Example: Delay until 5:00 PM PST.

  • Until an event occurs — Wait until a selected event occurs, such as a contact clicking a link.

  • Delay till optimal send time and day — Wait until the optimal time and day to send the review request.

  • Until DND window is open — Wait until the contact's DND window is open before continuing.

NOTE:

The configuration fields under Delay options change dynamically based on the option you select. For example, selecting Until an event occurs displays an Events field, while selecting a time- or duration-based option displays the corresponding date, time, or duration fields.

For the configured Delay up to 2 days until link is clicked node, select Until an event occurs, choose Clicked link in an email or sms under Events.

Select the Email Template and SMS Template used for the review request.

Set the Time unit and Unit value to define the maximum wait period.

In this example, the workflow waits up to 2 days for the contact to click a link in the email or SMS. The workflow then continues to the next step based on whether the event occurs within that period.

Click Save to save the delay configuration.

Based on condition

The Based on condition branch checks whether the contact clicked the review request link during the configured delay period. It then directs the contact to one of two paths:

Link clicked — If the contact clicks the review request link, the workflow moves to End because no reminder is needed.

Fallback branch — If the contact does not click the link within the configured delay period, the workflow follows the Fallback branch and sends a reminder.

Fallback branch

When the contact does not click the link within the configured delay period, the workflow follows the Fallback branch and continues to the Send email reminder action.

Send email reminder

The Send email reminder action follows up with the initial review request by sending a reminder email to contacts who reached the Fallback branch.

Click the Send email reminder node to open its configuration panel.

Under Email template, select the template you want to use for the reminder. You can also review or modify the action's Name and Description.

Click Save to save the reminder configuration.

Run a test

After configuring the Review Generation Agent, run a test to verify that the workflow executes as expected before activating it.

Click Run test.

Select a contact

In Preview settings, select a contact to use for the test. You can use the available filters, such as Last activity, Actions, Source, and Created date, to find a specific contact.

Select the contact and click Run test.

Review the test results

After the test completes, the Test details panel displays the execution results for each workflow step.

A successful step is marked with a green check. Expand each step to review what happened during execution, and click View inputs to inspect the inputs used for that step.

For example, the test results can show:

  • Contact is added from 4 sources — The trigger conditions were met and the workflow continued.

  • Delay till optimal send time and day — Shows when the workflow is scheduled to continue.

  • Send review request email — Confirms that the email action executed successfully.

  • Send review request text — Confirms that the text action executed successfully.

  • Delay upto 5 days until link is clicked — Shows whether the configured event occurred and the time the delay was evaluated.

  • Based on condition — Shows which branch was selected. For example - Link not clicked routes the contact to the fallback branch.

  • Send email reminder — Confirms that the reminder action executed successfully when the fallback branch was selected.

Review the results to confirm that the workflow follows the expected path and that each configured action executes correctly. Click Exit test to return to the workflow.

Publish the Review Generation Agent

After configuring and testing the workflow, you can activate the Review Generation Agent to start running it.

Click Activate to activate the agent.

To save your configuration without activating the agent, click the dropdown next to Activate and select Save as draft.
